Graffiti artist Toxicomano. Street Art Bogotá, Colombia. Urban art.

The first thing I noticed in Bogota, Colombia, while still in my taxi from the airport, were the incredible murals and graffiti all over the city. I looked around some more the next day and discovered a new world of street art. Next to the kind of ordinary graffiti tags we see everywhere, I saw city walls dense with striking and artistic graffiti work. I asked around and was introduced to the graffiti artist Toxicomano. We talked and agreed that I would do a short film about his work. One night we went around Bogota and I filmed his graffiti work all over the city.  It was freezing; a bottle of whisky helped a little. It was really cool to see street art at night, very different from during the day. I spoke with Toxicomano about his life, his work, the philosophy of what he does. I am really grateful for the opportunity to produce this film. A big thank you to my friend Alejandro Cuellar for driving me around the city at night for a few scenes in the film. And my deepest gratitude to Lina Maria Valencia for her help with translation for the subtitles.

Good bye Africa.

My time in Tanzania is almost finished. It was an incredible adventure. I learned a lot about this land and its people. I learned a lot about myself. Part of me will stay here. Working in Tanzania with NGO's gave me direction for my future projects. I am planning to continue to travel to different countries and work with local and international NGO's and other non-profit organizations. I hope my films and photography can help them with their hard and important work.
Here is new blog for my work with non-profit organizations - http://videoforngo.blogspot.com

Just started new FB page for my photography and video for NGO's, charities and other non-profit organizations. Please come visit and help me to help others. Thanks, BKS.

Michael's Journey: A True Story - From Crime and Addiction to a New Life in Africa

The true story of a man who found the courage and faith to change himself, "Michael's Journey" is both humbling and heartwarming. In this short film, Michael reflects on his life, taking viewers from multiple arrests and the bleakness of a prison cell in the United States, to his new home in a vibrant, challenging city in East Africa, where he has devoted himself to helping others.

"Michael's Journey" offers a glimpse of the indomitability of the human spirit, a testament to our ability to transform ourselves and to do good in the world.

In making this film, I developed a deep and abiding respect for Michael. I thank him and his wife Tracy for their enthusiasm and openness.

All shot with Canon t3i/600d, Tokina 11-16/2.8 and Canon lenses 24mm to 400mm, Flycam Nano, Glidetrack slider, Sony lavs, Sennheiser MKE 600, Tascam DR-60D.

African music, singing and dancing during Christmas meeting in a church. Tanzania, Africa.

For several days I could hear music and singing outside my home in Arusha, Tanzania. When I decided to go see what was happening, I found a church --  K.L.P.T. (El-Shaddai). The pastor, Teshome Jarso, kindly allowed me to film during an Open Air Revival Meeting. There was amazing singing and dancing, as well as the religious ceremony. It was a stirring experience, and will gladden your heart.  Enjoy -- and Merry Christmas, wherever you are!   BKS

Queen Mary 2 - Transatlantic voyage. Absolutely unofficial guide HD. July 2012.

Music: JCRZ - Runaway, Creative Commons
Sounder - Endless Space, Beyond Reach or Not, Creative Commons

In July 2012, we embarked on the Queen Mary 2 for a 7-day voyage from Southampton, UK to New York City. I am not a cruise-ship kind of guy, and get restless very quickly. However, the Queen Mary 2 is a marvel of human engineering and design, and it was a fascinating trip.

In this short film I tried to show most of the places on the ship where passengers can spend their time. When you see places without people, it's because I shot them very early or late, when most of my fellow passengers were sleeping or busy doing something else.

I don't have any affiliations with the Cunard company, and didn't have any special access (I would love to visit the engine room!) This was a personal project, done to entertain myself during the crossing.

P.S. Sorry for the late upload. I moved to Tanzania. It took time to have my equipment up and running. Subscribe! Don't miss new videos about Africa!

Video was shot with Canon t3i/600D with Tokina 11-16/2.8. Majority was done handheld with Flycam nano camera stabilizer, Gorillapod and tripod. Manual exposure with 100ASA and 1600ASA settings.

Restaurant Bodega de Posthoorn, The Hague, Netherlands. 1080 HD.

Music by The Flanger Sound -"On my old Ford of 1939". Creative Commons.

Disclosure:  This was not a commercial project. I did not receive any pay, nor did I get free food. I did, however, get lots of free cappuccinos, which made for some very caffeinated filming sessions.

Acknowledgments:  My deepest gratitude to Michael Meeuwisse -- owner of the Bodega de Posthoorn -- who not only kindly allowed me to film his restaurant, but took an unjustified risk by participating in my film.

Right in the heart of The Hague, on the graceful tree-lined Lange Voorhout, is the Bodega de Posthoorn.   A cozy cafe-restaurant, you can stop in for a beer, a coffee, some delicious Dutch pea soup, or a full meal.  You always feel welcome. When you walk in the door, you feel like you have stepped in to someone's home -- or back into a better and more generous time.  The Bodega's site is unbeatable:  From its terrace under the canopy of trees, you can gaze across the street to the swan-filled lake in front of the stately Parliament, or across the square at an elegant line of historic mansions -- one of which was the Queen's palace, and is now a remarkable museum devoted to the brain-teasing art of M.C. Escher.  The Bodega is a singular place -- come take a look.
